Revenge can be sweet

Hello there???? It has been a rather long time since I posted. I kind of took the summer off. I didn't even upload any pictures to my computer all summer long. I barely got the camera out and uploaded like 230 pictures and videos. I do plan on catching up on some posting of pics. It's my way of journaling so I am going to be trying to play catch up. Some may get tired of seeing all the pics I have but again, it's my blog so I'll do what I want.

Anyways, my first post into the blogging world again is one of Josh. We bought a scary mask to scare Josh and we filmed it. A little back story to explain why. Josh and Colton share a room. And well, Josh likes to get down there first and scare Colton each night. Colton hates it. We begged and demanded he stop. He didn't. It got so bad that Colton didn't want to go downstairs to his room alone and he also began wetting the bed-btw, he'd never been one to do that. We had been warning Josh that he'd pay for scaring him and that we would get him back. We switched Colton to the bottom bunk and put Josh on top. That seemed to help. But he wouldn't stop. One Monday we spent the day at Halloween stores and departments stores in search of something. We found one that we loved but didn't buy because it was a lot. Came home and searched for it on Amazon. Bought it and waited for it's arrival. Well, this is the fruit of our efforts. Not the best reaction. But we are continuing to scare him  at different times too. He has laid off of Colton now. Parents of the Year here? Probably not but it worked for us.

We went fishing this spring with some friends at Smithville Lake. We caught a couple but nothing big enough to keep. Justin and Lindsay Dill kicked our butts in the fishing. Here are a bunch of fun pictures from that trip.

Although everyone played with the minnows, Audrey was relentless with them. I caught her grabbing them and slipping them into a water bottle. Another time she had it in her hand ready to smash and squish it. That was disgusting.

Can you tell this boy was just thrilled to be in a music program. He was front and center because they go by height. And unfortunately he didn't get a lot of height from his parents. This boy is one stubborn little guy!

I had a video that showed his personality.  But there was problems with it uploading. It shows that no one is going to make him do anything he doesn't want to. He had done most of the actions for most the program. But this was near the end and he was done! He quit doing any of the actions, stuffing his hands in his pockets. He just wanted to be finished. And the final shot of him cracks me up! He was picking his nose then looking at it. Kids are shameless!

Colton loved his preschool and his teachers. I have really enjoyed North Cross Preschool. Colton's teachers did tell me that they had just discussed how far his speech has come over the year and if they couldn't understand him, they said he worked really hard to make it so that they could. It's been a great experience for Colton and for Josh and eventually for Audrey too. Colton went to preschool on Tues and Thurs from 9-3. I worried about him going all day but he did great. He loved his preschool days and wished he could go more.  So, I know he's going to do just fine in kindergarten. I just can't believe this school year is over.

The graduation was really nice. I held it together that night. I just didn't think about it. I mowed the lawn earlier that day and certain songs would come on and would make me tear up. I just can't believe he's done with preschool, before I know it he'll be graduating high school. So, I just don't like to think about it cause I don't want to cry. My kids are growing up so fast and I don't think I'm ready for it. Sometimes I miss the "easier" days of little ones all at home, no school, no extra activities, a little more carefree. Don't get me wrong, although I miss that, I am enjoying the freedom that comes as they age. Anyways, I am very proud of Colton. He's a great kid. He's very smart and caring and social. I just know he's going to excel in kindergarten. And it'll be here in a couple of week. He's doing a 2 week kindergarten kickoff in June with his new teacher. So watch out Meadowbrook and Mrs Deason here comes Colton!!!

 Wowzers! When did my baby Colton grow up so fast! It doesn't seem like long ago that we first moved to MO and he was just 6 weeks old. Missouri is the only home this little man knows. And now he has hit the huge milestone age of 5- that leads him straight to kindergarten. I am so not ready to let this boy go to school all day. He's such my little mommas boy.

 Colton helps get me moving in the right direction in cleaning the house. He likes to have things picked up and organized. He's constantly asking when we are going to clean this or that. He doesn't have to be pushed or prompted to put his stuff away. When he gets home he doesn't waste time in dumping his lunch box, giving me any paperwork and then putting his backpack up. He knows the rules and follows them-for the most part. He has been known to be a little rebellious now and then.

 He has been working so hard the last 9 months on his speech therapy. He wants to be better and understood more easily. He is his worst critic. He beats himself up when he can't say words right or when words just simply will not come out the way they should. His desire to be good is there, his tongue just doesn't always cooperate with him.  I see his heartache and frustration  and it has honestly left me heartbroken and in tears for him. He has a hard time seeing the progress he's made. He only sees the roadblocks he is still facing. He has this drive to be perfect in everything and when he's not it drives him mad.

 Colton is a very unique little man. Right now he loves Home Alone. We have all 4 of the Home Alone series. And specifically #3 is his very favorite. We have watched them over and over again, in fact we watched one of  them today. Also, I love how when he's excited over something he will jump up and down really fast. I love how he is such a big teaser. He loves to play jokes and tricks on people. I laugh at how he regularly puts on 2 different shoes and I allow it except to school. I find it funny when in the middle of the day, at random times, he comes to me asking for a bath. It'll be 2pm and he wants to have a bath. So, I give him one, only to have him walk out, wrapped in a towel 5-10 min later. I laugh at some of his catch phrases, right now when something is hot he says it's "freezing hot." I have come to expect that when I pick him up from school and ask what he did that day he will say nothing. Or if I do get an answer from him it's something sarcastic or about the snack they had. I could go on and on about his quirks cause he has plenty of them. But that's what makes him special. o

 If you notice Josh has wrapping paper in his hand. We make everyone but the bday kid pick up the paper and trash. And then on their birthday we let that individual pick everything, breakfast, lunch, dinner, prayers, and what we do for the evening. It's their special day after all.

 So, I hope our little man had a great birthday. We had to celebrate his birthday 2 days early because we were too busy all week long. On his special day, he got to pick breakfast, he chose waffles. But then unfortunately he had a dentist appt. We like to tease him that his dang mouth costs us a lot. Between speech therapy and all the dental work it has added up. But, he really did get genetically screwed with his teeth. He has already had like 3 fillings, a crown put in, and like 4 more cavities to be fixed. And ironically he's our best brusher now!  After he had a dentist appt, he had speech therapy, and then I worked on his bday cake. While I did the cake, he watched a movie and fell asleep. Well, after I was done, I woke him up to see his cake and run to Sam's Club for a birthday treat for his preschool class. Well, he didn't want to get up nor did he want to see the cake. When he finally came to I told him to go look at his cake. Well, he wanted nothing to do with it, in fact he turned his head the other way and walked straight down the stairs to the car. Crazy me for thinking that he'd want to see it! So instead we ran to Sam's Club and got him some Angry Bird cupcakes.  Even after returning home, he still didn't give it much of a look. That is just another unique trait of Colton. Once everyone was home we opened up all his presents then it was time for dinner.  Lucky for me he chose pizza. Yay no cooking for me-just Little Ceaser's. Then we let Colton choose what we did after dinner. He chose the park. I was dreading that he'd say Penguin park but again, I lucked out and he said Macken Park. Then we came home, had cake and ice cream and went outside. Played for a little while then asked Colton what was next. We all wanted hot tub but not him, he wanted a movie. Unfortunately, it was getting late and he wanted Home Alone so he had to settle for something short and sweet. Overall, I think he had a pretty darn good birthday. And as I write this 2 days after the festivities, he even got treated special on his real bday too. But that's ok cause he's a pretty darn special kid. I really like him. We are so glad that he's in our family. He brings a lot of laughter and smiles to our family. We love you Mr Colton-bear!!!!

This was the cake that Josh chose the night before his birthday. Originally we had planned on doing a camouflage airplane but he changed at the last minute. It took me all day doing the little things for this cake but it was a fun one to make. All along the sides of the cake I added some skulls and crossbones.

 Oh, what can I say about Josh? He is a character! To sum him up, he is the spawn of his father. They are so much alike it's not funny! He is a very unique boy. He is extremely picky when it comes to food. He refuses to eat cut off corn but yet he will eat corn on the cob. I cannot get him to eat much fruit at all so when he chose fruit for dinner, I quickly agreed to that. I made the hash brown funeral potato's and her refused to tough those. He loves meats, nuts and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Side story, he is so picky that he is not getting a good variety of food so I came to him with 2 choices. Choice 1: eat a variety of food to be healthy and stop whining about it or choice 2: he could have pbj's for breakfast, lunch or dinner for a month solid oh and only milk or water to drink. (Ya, ya not a great solution in trying to create better healthy eating habits but I did it anyways.) Well, initially he of course chose pbj's but then decided he'd eat healthy and stop whining.

Josh has really been into listening to music lately on my ipod. So, he did get an ipod shuffle for his bday. He can put them on and do his chores-maybe that'll help motivate him. Before changing rooms around he could care less about a clean room, but now he is trying to keep it up. If we come down to his room at bedtime & it's messy, he'll tell us that he'll pick it up tomorrow.

He is a stubborn one that boy! He refuses to wear a jacket in the morning anymore. His rational is that it's only cold at night now. So apparently if the sun is up it couldn't possibly be cold, right! We have had a few battles lately on the jacket issue-mom says wear a jacket when the temperature says mid 30's and he says no. He must run hot cause he also doesn't like to wear clothes either. As soon as he gets home from school you can bet he'll strip down naked. Nor does he ever wear pajama's even in the dead of winter. He likes to be naked. So much so, that he gets in the hot tub in just underwear too! He likes to be naked!

Right now, I can't really say he's into anything super big time. But some of his interests are Pokemon cards, Lego's, the Lego mini figure men, books, collecting and hoarding his things, his little laptop. He says his favorite food is mac and cheese, mom would have said pb&j's. His favorite color is green. He wants to be a police officer when he grows up. If he had a million dollars he would buy his own hot tub. His favorite candy is Hershey's chocolate. His favorite book is Junie B Jones. And his favorite thing to do with his family is get in the hot tub. I see a theme there for him: hot tub=NAKED!!!!

Like I said our little Joshy is a very unique and funny boy! He comes in such a small package but he really has some power in that little body and mind! Can't even believe that he just turned 7!!!! He will soon be finished with 1st grade and onto 2nd grade! Sheesh! That's so surreal to me! It really has gone fast! But he love our little Joshy!

And this is the cake I made for my final cake. I think we are caked-out cause I had to throw some of it away before I began making Josh's cake. We just can't eat any more cake right now. The cake classes were fun but it'll be nice to take a break from cake and have Saturday's free again. 

Changes

Well, where do I start? We have had a lot of changes around here. First up, we decided to close my salon. We prayed about it and felt like the timing was right. We have been getting too busy with all the demands of life. March 15th was my last day. It is sad to see it come to a close. I loved doing it and visiting with people but my house and kids were getting neglected. I simply could not keep up with everything so the salon was something that we could eliminate to simplify our lives.

 

So, with the closing of the salon, that left us with one big room. We knew that it only made sense to make it into a bedroom. With only 3 bedrooms upstairs, we had 2 kids sharing per room. Which is fine but Audrey is getting older and needs to have her own room.  We had a silent vote (boys only) and asked where everyone wanted to sleep. Colton and Nate wanted downstairs and Josh wanted his own room. And of course Audrey got her own room. Well, the night before the room was ready Josh and Nate changed their minds on what they wanted. It now came to Nate getting his own room and Colton and Josh sharing downstairs. This is a small video of what my salon looked like before. Notice, I did not clean it and make it all perfect cause I wanted it to reflect the truth of what it really was on a daily basis.

We really like how everything turned out. We think it's a pretty awesome room. We still want to add some more detail and personality to the room but this is where it stands at for now. The boys really do love their room. Admittedly, the first night they were scare to be down there, it was only after leaving lights on and them both sleeping together that they were ok. And since then, they have been completely ok. Danny did add the animal tracks that I think are a nice addition.

 

 

 So, I didn't have any before pictures of this room to post. It was a John Deere tractor room before.  But this is what Nate's room looks like now. We  let him pick out what he wanted to do to this room. We have some old barn wood frames that are going up by the shelf. Uncle Kyle agreed to draw him a bear picture and grandpa is going to draw an antelope picture. Which I think adds such a nice touch. And then I think I'll try my hand at some camouflage valance. Also, eventually on the ceiling will be stars, and a full moon and planets.

 We think this room turned out really good too.  He, also, was slightly scared the first night to be alone but Nate enjoys having his own room. And Audrey's room is in transition. I have not been able to get to it because I got a slight case of vertigo. So, it's still in process. I do know that we want to do a wall that is all sparkly, most likely silver and maybe the other walls in some stripes.

Some of the other changes to our life include Danny finally being done with school. Yay!! No more school! No more school means more nights with Danny around. That being said, he was been called to Young Mens. He is the 2nd counselor and scout master. Now every Wednesday he is gone with all night. But that is ok cause he is loving it. It's been a good change.

I have been taking a cake class. I have done Wilton course 1 and am finishing with course 2 on Saturday. I have been taking it with my friend Melissa and it has been a lot of fun. They have 4 course and want to continue the last 2 later in the year. I have learned a lot and has definitely  helped make my kids cakes much better.

Kids are doing good. They are growing fast. Of course Audrey just turned 3. Josh will be 7 next week. Colton is 5 in May and Nate is 9. We just registered Colton for kindergarten. I can't believe he will be going to kindergarten. We moved here what he was just 6 weeks old and now he's getting so big. We have been working with a speech therapist at home and he loves Pattie. Colton has come a long way with his speech. Josh is really doing good in school. He has went up 4 reading levels since January so overall this year he has really taken off with his reading. Nate loves his Sage class and is a very good conscientious citizen at school (at least he save his battles for us at home).  They are good kids they just really keep us busy!

I cannot believe that my baby girl just turned 3 today! Where has the time gone? I think she looks so big and of course beautiful in the picture above this paragraph. And yes I put make-up on her just for fun one day, it's not something we do daily. And she is absolutely beautiful without makeup!  

 

This little girl is growing up so fast. She is a little chatterbox-never stops talking. She LOVES Dora and Diego. We watch a few episodes daily. When they ask any question she talks right back to them as if they can hear her. She is full of spunk.

Audrey is very much a girl that loves anything girly but isn't afraid to get outside and get dirty either. She loves anything pink, purple and sparkly. She loves princesses, baby dolls, her kitchen and especially her shopping cart and food.

She was so thrilled with her Tangled dolls. Also, note the hair. This was in the morning right before church. This is actually a tamed look for her in the morning. I love her curls but they are rather unruly to handle if you don't know what you are doing.

 Audrey is my little shopping buddy. She does rather well going shopping with me where ever we go. I enjoy taking her to JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby cause she gets excited about the pretty stuff too. I'll ask her an opinion on something and it's either beautiful or I don't like that. She knows what she likes and doesn't like. She is opinionated and stubborn!

 Audrey is very affectionate. She likes to give all of us hugs. If she thinks you are asleep, she kisses your cheek to wake you up. She loves to sleep in the middle of mommy and daddy but that is something that we have slowly weaned her of. She does occasionally sneak back in at night but it's hard to get mad at her when she just wants you to cuddle with her.

Colton just cannot help himself-he has to pick up and clean. He can not handle the mess so he picked up with out being asked, Nate soon followed his lead.

Nate loves his baby sister

 She had such a great birthday! We celebrated a day early because Danny had school on Monday night but she didn't know that. She chose Tangled for her table decorations. She loved all her gifts! Once she had opened all her gifts, she stopped what she was doing and stood up and looked at us and said "Thank you everybody!" It was just the sweetest thing ever. She is a very sweet conscientious little thing. At the beginning of the day we would say happy birthday and she'd say happy birthday to you too. She is a funny one.

And her real personality comes out.

 Audrey has been a lot of fun to have in the family. She has brought some pink and frilly into a house that is filled with  legos, trucks, balls and swords. We love her so much but I maintain that one girl is enough for us in this life. The crazy emotional switchbacks are just insane to deal with. But we love her a lot!  HAPPY BITHDAY BABY GIRL!!!!!
